Espresso is brewed by forcing hot water under pressure through finely-ground coffee — the result is a concentrated shot with crema that's the base for lattes, cappuccinos, and flat whites. The H7B makes this accessible with a built-in grinder, so you go from whole bean to espresso without separate equipment.
Yes. Load whole beans into the hopper, select your grind setting on the machine, and it grinds directly before brewing. This reduces counter space requirements and simplifies the workflow. The built-in grinder is calibrated for espresso range settings.
Start at the medium-fine range and pull a test shot. If the shot runs under 20 seconds (sour, under-extracted), go finer. If it runs over 35 seconds (bitter, over-extracted), go coarser. Built-in grinders on combo machines are optimised for espresso, so you shouldn't need extreme settings.
Yes. The steam wand froths cold milk into microfoam. Start with cold milk in a cold pitcher, submerge the wand tip just below the surface, stretch the milk in the first few seconds, then heat to 60–65°C. For cappuccino, froth longer for thicker foam; for a latte, keep it silky and pourable.
After each use: purge and wipe the steam wand, knock out the puck, rinse the portafilter, and run a blank shot. For the grinder: brush out remaining grounds after each session and run a cleaning tablet (like Grindz) monthly. Descale the machine every 2–3 months.
