How much ever it may sound silly, having a good grinder actually takes your coffee game several notches up.

I have been using cheap grinders for years, until I finally started searching (and searching) for a decent one that wasn’t priced outrageously. I was confused between the Baratza range, the DF54, and the DF64. I picked the latter because of its build quality and what I learned about consistent grind quality. Some of the features experts talked about were going over my head, but they still sounded convincing.

I put my faith in it & I can’t complain. It will take some time to get fully used to it. Maybe I still need to do some tinkering to get that extraction everyone swears by. However, the puck quality is excellent, I am getting better crema, and the extraction time is pretty solid.

* Good service experience too: I had a minor potential issue one month in with a strange rattling sound. No issue with the functionality at all, purely a noise it was making from near the base. The fixcoffee team understood my query about it via a submitted video and ticket, and assigned a service agent in my city (New Delhi) promptly who visited the very next day... and it turned out to be just a plastic bit that had come loose from its zip-tied housing, which was fixed within 2 minutes. After fighting with inconsistent grinds from both my electric and hand grinders, I finally decided enough was enough. Did a fair bit of research and landed on the DF64 Gen and honestly, it’s been a great call.

Since switching, dialing in espresso has been way easier and the results in the cup have been consistently fantastic. For the price, this grinder punches well above its weight. Solid performance, reliable grind quality, and it just gets the job done without fuss.

So far, I’m genuinely happy with it, and my espresso has never tasted better.

Grinding is fast and consistent, and retention is minimal, which makes it great for single dosing. Once properly seasoned, the grind quality improves noticeably. 18g at 12-13 clicks takes around 10-11 seconds to grind.

Static can be an issue, especially for pour-over, so RDT becomes almost necessary. Cleaning is straightforward and does not take much effort.

Noise levels are noticeable but not a dealbreaker considering the performance.

Overall, a solid grinder that pairs really well with a machine like the Gaggia Classic Pro.
