WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique. A WDT tool uses fine needles to break up clumps in freshly-ground coffee and evenly distribute grounds in the portafilter basket before tamping. This eliminates channelling, improves extraction, and gives you more consistent shots — especially important for single-dose grinders and fine espresso grinds.
Yes — the needle span is adjustable for 51mm, 54mm, and 58mm baskets, which covers almost every home and prosumer espresso machine including Gaggia, Breville, Rancilio, Rocket, La Marzocco, Flair, and more. Just dial the span to match your basket size.
0.4mm needles are very fine — if you drop the tool or catch a needle on the basket edge, one can bend. We include 6 spare replacement needles so you can swap them out in seconds and never lose a shot waiting for replacements. Most brands sell spares separately; we don't.
Loosen the needle collar at the base of the handle, slide the bent needle out, insert a spare, and tighten the collar. It takes under 30 seconds and requires no tools.
Grind directly into your portafilter, hold the Bolt perpendicular to the basket, and gently stir the grounds in small circular or figure-eight motions — go all the way to the edges and down to near the bottom. Keep it light; you're breaking up clumps, not churning. Tamp immediately after.
Yes. The needles and magnetic stand are SUS304 stainless steel — food-safe and corrosion-resistant. Wipe down with a dry cloth after use; for deeper cleaning, rinse under warm water and dry thoroughly. Avoid dishwashers as heat cycles can loosen the needle collar over time.
