Espresso is brewed by forcing hot water under high pressure through finely-ground coffee, producing a concentrated shot with crema on top. The H10 Plus's 20-bar pump delivers the headroom for proper 9-bar extraction — the base for lattes, cappuccinos, and Americanos.
Standard, L1, and L2. Standard runs typical 9-bar espresso — the right starting point for most coffees. L1 and L2 reduce pressure for gentler extraction, useful for pre-infusion or lighter roasts. Start with Standard and experiment once you're comfortable with your baseline shot.
Very fine — similar to powdered sugar. If your shot runs under 20 seconds, go finer. Over 35 seconds, go coarser. Use a burr grinder for the consistency espresso demands.
Yes. The steam wand froths cold milk into microfoam for lattes (silky, pourable) or cappuccinos (thicker, drier). Start with cold milk in a cold pitcher, submerge the wand just below the surface, and stretch before heating to 60–65°C.
After each session: purge the steam wand, rinse the portafilter, and run a blank shot to flush the group head. Descale every 2–3 months with a commercial descaler. Use filtered water where possible to extend descaling intervals.
