Description

The DF54 V4 is the compact entry point to single-dose flat-burr grinding. 54mm flat burrs, 150W motor, plasma anti-static, and near-zero retention in a footprint that fits anywhere on the counter.

Single-dose workflow: Weigh your beans, drop them into the bellows hopper (50g) or directly into the chute (20g without bellow), grind, done. Retention stays below 0.1g — what you put in is what you get out.

54mm flat burrs: Stainless steel; higher uniformity than conical burrs at the same price, particularly for espresso and filter. Stepless chrome adjustment dial with numbered reference ring.

Plasma anti-static + anti-popcorn: An ionizer in the chute neutralises static so grounds release cleanly into the 58mm dosing cup. Integrated anti-popcorn design keeps beans from bouncing back out the top, for consistent feed.

All-purpose range: Espresso-fine through pour-over and syphon. Well suited to kitchens where one grinder has to do everything.

Looking for more burr? See the DF64 Gen 2 (64mm) and DF83 Gen 2 (83mm) — comparison below.

Frequently asked

What is a flat burr grinder, and how is it different from a conical burr?

Flat burrs cut beans between two parallel discs, producing a highly uniform particle size distribution. This gives espresso a clear, structured flavour with good separation of notes. The DF54's 54mm flat burrs grind fast, run cool, and produce very low retention — key for single-dose espresso work.

What does 'zero retention' mean, and why does it matter?

The DF54 retains under 0.1g of ground coffee inside the machine between doses. This means you get exactly what you put in, with no stale grounds from a previous session contaminating your next dose. Critical for single-dose work and essential if you switch between different coffees or roast levels.

What is the plasma generator, and what does it do?

The plasma generator reduces static electricity inside the grinder. Static causes ground coffee to clump and cling to the bin walls, creating mess and inconsistent dosing. With the plasma generator, grounds flow cleanly into the 58mm dosing cup with minimal clinging — no static spray, cleaner workflow.

What is 'anti-popcorn' technology?

Anti-popcorn refers to a mechanism that prevents beans from bouncing erratically in the chute before reaching the burrs. Beans feed evenly and consistently, which matters especially in single-dose grinding where you're working with small amounts (the DF54's hopper holds 20g without the lid).

What grind settings should I start with?

The stepless adjustment gives infinite fine-tuning. For espresso, start conservative (fine end of the dial) and adjust toward target shot time of 25–30 seconds for a 1:2 ratio. For pour-over, step up several positions coarser. For French press, coarser still. Every coffee and roast will require its own dial-in — note your settings when you find the sweet spot.

What warranty does the DF54 come with?

The DF54 comes with a warranty covering manufacturing defects. View full DF Grinders warranty terms and the claim process here.
