Description

The DC63 is the DF family's conical-burr grinder — 63mm Red Titanium (TiCN-coated) conical burrs and a 190W DC motor running at ~400 RPM. Flat burrs give clarity; conicals give body.

63mm conical burrs: Red Titanium coated for extended life. Conical geometry produces a fuller-bodied, heavier-mouthfeel cup — closer to a Niche Zero character than the DF54/DF64's flat-burr clarity.

Stepless micrometric adjustment: Infinite fine-tuning with a smooth dial.

Single-dose workflow: ~20–25g bellow hopper. Low-retention design with bellow + knocker — drop beans, grind, knock, done.

Low-speed DC motor: 400 RPM is intentionally slower than the flat-burr DF line — less heat, better for light roasts, quieter operation.

Prefer flat burrs and clarity? See the DF54 or DF64 Gen 2. The DC63 is for drinkers who chase crema, chocolate, and syrupy espresso.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between a flat burr and a conical burr grinder?

Flat burrs (like the DF64V's DLC-coated flat burrs) cut beans between two parallel discs for a highly uniform particle size — preferred by espresso enthusiasts for clarity and structured extraction. Conical burrs (like the DC63's 63mm conical) use a cone-shaped inner burr inside a ring — they run slightly cooler and quieter, and produce a rounder flavour profile. Both produce excellent espresso when properly dialled in.

What does 'variable speed' mean on the DF64V, and how do I use it?

Variable speed (800–1800 RPM) lets you choose how fast the burrs rotate. Slower speeds (800 RPM) generate less heat — beneficial for delicate light roasts where temperature affects flavour. Higher speeds (1800 RPM) grind faster, useful for coarser filter settings. Most espresso users will settle on a lower speed and leave it there.

What is the DLC burr coating on the DF64V?

DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) is an extremely hard coating applied to the burr surface. It dramatically increases wear resistance — DLC burrs stay sharp for significantly longer than uncoated steel. The coating also has lower friction, which reduces heat transfer during grinding and keeps grounds cooler.

What is the plasma generator, and what does it do?

The plasma generator neutralises static charge inside the grinder. Static causes ground coffee to cling to bin walls and clump, reducing dosing accuracy. With the plasma generator, grounds flow cleanly into the 58mm dosing cup with minimal retention — cleaner workflow, more accurate doses.

What grind settings should I start with?

The stepless adjustment gives infinite fine-tuning. For espresso, start conservative (fine end of the dial) and adjust toward target shot time of 25–30 seconds for a 1:2 ratio. For pour-over, step up several positions coarser. For French press, coarser still. Every coffee and roast will require its own dial-in — note your settings when you find the sweet spot.

What warranty does this grinder come with?

The DF64V and DC63 come with a warranty covering manufacturing defects. View full DF Grinders warranty terms and the claim process here.
